Youth sport participation in the United States is a multi-billion dollar business.

Parents pay thousands of dollars each year to enroll their son or daughter in private club sports such as youth volleyball.  Participation in youth club sports has not gone without criticism (Hyman, 2012; Hyman, 2010; O'Sullivan, 2014).  Sport specialization and the big business aspects of youth club involvement are just two of several concerns.  The purpose of this study and paper is to explore the youth club volleyball phenomenon.  A survey instrument was developed and administered to parents of youth club volleyball players at a large end of season regional youth club volleyball tournament in the mid-Atlantic region of the United States.  Demographic data from parents were gathered along with club volleyball spending patterns by parents.   Also, twelve factors were examined that motivate parents to enroll their child in club volleyball and pay thousands of dollars for participation.  Results of the survey will be presented and discussed.Parental Involvement, Commitment, and Motivations in Youth Club Volleyball Participation
